I feel really encouraged to not only know that I am not alone!! But thank you all for letting me know its okay to not have perfection in all things.. I tend to struggle with this inside of myself. :) And my laundry basket is full to with clean clothes and well.. this week the crock pot will get a good work out indeed! Thank you all so much!!!!! :) I am off to tackle the assignments today one at a time!! :)

It will all work out. You do what you can when you can do it. Similar to what Sarah said.... if the laundry doesn't get put away, at least its clean. Gosh knows I have had a basket of laundry sitting upstairs for almost a week now waiting to be fully emptied, give it two days :) It will be because I emptied it to wear what was in it. You do what you can when you can do it. For me lists have helped. Just making out a big calendar of upcoming class assignments, tests, papers etcc then I know this week the house will be a "disaster" and I am ok with it. So I can prep the week before and make extra meals or extra clean the tub. its not easy but you can do it! (I am just starting my first semester back as a graduate student.I think how is this going to work?! but i then slow it down and tackle what needs to be done today, maybe look at tomorrows things and upward we go! )

Isn't it funny even though we are adults we still want to throw ourselves on the ground and kick and scream when it comes to doing our school work :-)~ I am working on my AA in Accounting and Business. Right now I am taking a tax and payroll classes on-line. Kind of wishing I would have taken the tax class on campus because I am starting to pull my hair out right now. Maybe I can trade places with my 6 year old ;-)

Jenny, I understand. I am a student with a four month old. Last semester I was pregnant and then had a newborn, was enrolled full time, and working part time. I learned a few things that keep my stress under control.
One, you will not get As. Thats okay. No, really. It's okay. Accept it, and move on.
Two, what kind of school do you go to? I've found that if I go to my professor's office and flat out say, "listen, I know this is not your problem, but I'm dealing with _____ and I'm a single parent and ____ and I just want you to understand why my work may be late, etc" they will respond really well. Most people have kids and families. Most people are more than willing to embrace their humanity.
Three, the laundry does not need to be put away. Wear it out of the clean hamper. Dont let yourself feel guilty about not doing it all perfectly. Single parents are expected to do it all in the same amount of time on less sleep than anyone else.

AHHHH!! I am so stressed! The first 2 weeks of the semester I was sick.. then I get to school and my case for financial aide was in audit? Hmmm.. so I could not get my books, I just got them last Friday and I am already a month behind.. I am SO stressed out right now I could just cry.. wait.. I am!! :( But after I am done.. I will get reading and well.. one assignment at a time.. Has anyone been here before? I try to email my professors but no luck and they are invisible beyond the class time.. then I have a full time job, a house that needs tending to and son that that needs help with his homework.. groceries are slim.. *deep breath** I need some encouragement today I think.. :) Anyone know what I mean?

Hi, everyone! I am a full-time physics student at UCSC, raising a 3.5 year old little boy. I'd love to meet more single parents who balance family and education!

I have a two year old and I'm going to enroll in community college for spring semester (feb). I want to transfer to the local UC to get my BA after finishing my pre recs. I want to work for a nonprofit one day organizing community outreach programs. I tried to go to school when my DD was a little baby, but it was just too much. She's older now and I'm pretty much itching to crack open those books and get the degree I want.

How old is your baby?

I have a 5 yr old, a 3 yr old, and a 3 month old....I find that I get most of my studying/homework done when the girls (my two oldest) are with their dad for the weekend. Actually, come to think of it...I get quite a bit done around the house while they're gone, lol :D I love 'em anyways though, lol!

Regardless of his/her age though...you just need to get into a rhythm and find a couple family members/friends that will help support you. For example, if/when you have to go to campus to take a test, or you have an assignment deadline and the baby is being particularly fussy....There has to be a chunk of the day that is usually pretty quiet around your place (at least as far as the baby is concerned).

Hope this helps...Stephanie (let me know if you need help! I've been taking online classes for the last three terms now and anticipate continuing with as much online coursework as I can)
