Here is the super short version for the lazy:
1. Fed monetary policy that created cheap credit.
2. Government intervention is private markets, i.e. mandating more and more questionable loans be made.
I know its hard for some some of you to believe, but this mess wasn't created by George Bush, Republican Deregulation, or unregulated Credit Default Swaps.
