I live in a suburb, and usually it is pretty quiet in our area, very low crime seems really safe, so imagine my surprise this morning when I went to my parents, and while driving there discovered that I had been robbed!! I went christmas shopping with a friend yesterday, and when I came home decided that the trunk of my car would be a good place to temporarly hide the presents from my 2 curious children who were hovering waiting to see if they could peek into the bags when I walked them into the house. A little while later I went to my cousins to see her new baby (a preemie who has recently been home from the hospital) and didnt get home til late last night (and at this time had kids with me, so presents stayed in the trunk).

Guess I forgot to lock my car.......

this am, Little one wants to go visit grandma! we get into the car and start driving.....a couple blocks into the drive, my car starts beeping that the trunk is open, so I pull over, open the trunk, and its practically empty!! only one of my bags are in there, almost all the presents are gone, and so is my school bag!!! I cannot believe that some punk kids had the nerve to steel my kids christmas presents!! I worked hard to get that stuff for them, and someone had the nerve to break into my car and take it all!!

Luckily for me, the cops caught the kids that were breaking into cars last night, thanks to an observent neighbor that called on their suspicious activity, but I wont know for a while if i will get my stuff back before christmas, and they threw my school books and work into the swamp by my house, luckily the book that I need the most has minimal damage, but I will not be able to sell them back to school to recoop some of the money that I spent on them, but all in all i'm very thankful today that my stuff was recovered, and these punks will be prosecuted!!

Tu sucks. But at least they did not get your car and they got caught. I had my car broken into twice in 2 months in Canada. Had the car stolen and i got back minus everything in and it was heavily damaged. I now have a sticker on my car that says it is being tracked. I keep a club on both cars now and i never leave much of anything in the car for long.

See if you can push for the max sentence. One of the kids who stole my car was a juvi and they kept letting him out. 3 yrs later he killed two kids in a drug deal gone bad. I wished had made a stronger impact statement. Grinches!

They were all juveniles, so i'm not sure how this all works, but i'm thinking just by the fact that they took little kids christmas presents and threw out my school books like trash should be impact enough.....but i'm not even sure how all this works!! will I need to go to court? or because they are juvi's is it confidential? the officer yesterday said that he is very familiar with these kids causing trouble, but nothing like this, so now he is gonna be watching them more carefully. There were alot of breakins the same night, and usually around here it is pretty crime free......

It sounds like they are being rotated in and out of jail. Typica wl
If the file charges, then make sure you can file an impact statement.
Also ou me be eligible for something from a a victim fund. I did not know until after the fact
So i lost out. Say why you think they need to be sent to somethng harder. Some of his past will be confidential. Then my car insurer tried to screw me. In the end they had to pay me years later 300 for what they had to pay then.
I remember when i saw the kids face flahs on the news and he had killed two young kids i remember them telling me when he stole m car he had done this like 13 times before. He then carjacked someone still go out and went on to kill. He knew nothing would happen to him.

The sticker i has is not hooked to a tracking system but no one has touched the car since. I got another one for the son the other day. I can get one for about 25 bucks. So worht it.

That is very sad and scary!!
I'm just glad that there was no damage to the car, and well for alot of other things, like the fact that my garage door opener was in there and they easily could have gotten into the house, or stole the car, or who knows what else!!

i'm trying to keep my head positive, and be thankful that things have turned out the way that they are.....and hoping that I can recover my stuff before christmas. the officer said that usually with a theft that they keep the evidence til the trial, but because of the circumstances and that they are obviously gifts he is hoping to document them and get them back to me. he said that this should happen because they were basically caught red handed!! there is that little part of me though that is wondering "what if" because if I cannot get it back before santa comes, i cannot afford to replace it!
They also explained to me that I will be reimbursed for the damaged items, but that will not be until after their trial, so i just need to be patient, and thankfully I can still use the books for the last few weeks of the semester....dont know what I'd do without the books, because I need them to finish out the semester!!

where did you find the tracking system stickers? I have home security stickers on the windows, but havent ever seen ones for the car!! I have never had an issue like this, so i havent ever been concerned before!!

i got mine from a guy in canada but they have them on www.homedepot.ca not .com

i made one for my house too after some kids stole some stuff on the outside. the whole neighbor hood was wondering where the hidden cameras where... none. but it worked.

nice areas are prime area for car robberies. when i lived in a nicer area we got broken into more than when i moved to a poorer area. the ins. company told me it was about the money.

poor people have less nice stuff than rich people especially in cars.

if your city is in part of this site it is great tool www.crimereports.com

never leave even a penny i site. no bank stuff i did that and had to close out the accts. as my agent said leave in the car what you can live wiithout or easily replace.

that is terrible about the gift for the holidays. this is a bad time of the year they probably saw you put the stuff in. a lady in our so called nice area got raped. he got in through the unlocked garage. your state or pd should have some victims funds thing ask them about it. they usually do not volunteer the info. i am sorry this had to happen now.

Yes, there is! thanks for the link!! what they have been telling me is that I guess that you cannot get it until they have gone to trial though. but I may just call them later after I find out what is going on with the stuff, because if I cannot get it back for christmas, i need a plan B!! Thank you for all your help through this

Man these kids had absolutley no rhyme or reason to the things that they took or did
One of my neighbors had just the faceplate to her stereo stolen, and they rummaged through her papers in the backseat then left it all in a neat pile. another had pictures from deerhunting taken and the car manual......
guess these were the definition of stupid criminals!! And the cops said that they recovered a whole bunch of sunglasses, cheap sunglasses.....

I would see when you go to court, if they go, to see if they can some psych evauls on them if they have not had one. Coule be a bigger problem to make them steal. Good luck. Being a victim of a crime is a pain. Some states now allow the suing of the parents for the crimes. I am sure they have done this before. Most have and they rotate in and out of juvi

We live in a rual area ( never use to lock doors, lock car doors or anything like that in the past). When I was younger I decided to move to Panama city with a roomate from my hometown. I woke up one day and 50 CD's were gone, my stereo, and an amp. When I went inside to call the cops I noticed mud on the floor at the door. We forgot to lock the door to the apt and the theif stuck his head in the door. Its a bad feeling.
