Meet Single Parents - i Heart Single Parents Social Network

An online community for single parents to meet, chat and find support!

I know there have been a couple of posts here about the JBF Sale happening this weekend in Portland, but I just had to get another post in to remind parents to go! You won't be sorry. Also, for those people who aren't in Portland, you can check out when a sale is happening near you on the JBF website (www.jbfsale.com)

It's really an awesome way to save money. I went last year and bought 90% of my son's wardrobe in one shot. It's like a huge rummage sale -- I think they have hundreds of families participating this year.

Anyway, I am not affiliated with the sale itself, but it was so worthwhile for me last time I went that I wanted to spread the word.

It's at the Expo center, starting on Friday at 6 pm and running until Sunday (on the last day, a lot of the stuff is half off!)

What sort of prices are we looking at?

Yeah, I'd say PJs and tshirts/shirts are $1-2, then nicer shirts (button downs, fancier things) are more like $3 or $4. Some high end brands and sweaters or coats can go up to $8 or $10, but that's a noticeable exception. Those are rough estimates. On the other hand, there are some random steals. I bought my son a brand new winter coat, fleece-lined, reversible, nice-looking for $1.99. Lots of pants for about $2-$3. And like Drew said, everything is in really good condition. They require everybody to launder the clothes before consignment, too, so everything is clean and smells good.

The real steal is shoes, as you know they can be crazy pricey. Finding shoes for $3 is awesome.

Also, TONS of books, toys, potties, sheets, etc. Those all go for pretty cheap. A lot of sellers bag 2 - 5 books together in a plastic ziploc and price the bag at $1 or $2.

The earlier you get there, obviously, the better, but the prices are seriously good.

Last year I made $70 consigning. I spent a little over $100. With that money, I got two full garbage bags of clothes, one garbage bag of toys, a separate bag of books, a tricycle, a push-toy for my niece, and a drum set. Not bad for about $30. We had just moved to Portland and it was a definite lifesaver.
